(Olea europaea ‘Manzanillo’, also known as the “olive of Seville”)

Manzanilla olives originate from Spain and are known as the queen of green table olives. The name Manzanilla means “little apple”. The olive fruit softens quickly upon ripening, has a thick green skin with tiny white spots and a superb texture.

Now let’s look at the health benefits!

One serving of Manzanilla olives could be suggested as 5 olives:

One serving of Manzanilla olives doesn’t contain enough of any single nutrient to help you reach the daily recommendations, but they do contain small amounts of several essential vitamins and minerals that support good health.

Five manzanilla olives contain:

  • 7 mg of calcium – important for healthy bones and teeth
  • 6 mg of potassium – which keeps blood pressure at a healthy number
  • Approximately 2g of saturated fat – the good kind which improves the health of your brain and heart
  • And only 20 calories!

Vitamin E, an antioxidant, is also found in Manzanilla olives at about 1g per 5 olives. Adults should ideally take in around 15mg of Vitamin E per day which helps your body to fight bacteria and viruses, and counteracts the free radicals in your environment which damages cells, leading to cancer and heart disease.
